All kids from birth to five are eligible to receive one book by mail each month through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at no cost to the family. Children registered at birth will receive 60 books in the mail!

About the Imagination Library: Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly Parton started the Imagination Library for the children within her home county and now has participating communities within the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Republic of Ireland. So far, the program has gifted nearly 130 million books to more than 1,452,000 children since 1995!

What is it? Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a 60 volume set of books beginning with the children’s classic The Little Engine That Could. Each month, a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in your child’s name, directly to your home. Best of all, it is a FREE GIFT! There is no cost or obligation to your family.

Who is Eligible?: Children, birth to five and are residents of Jefferson County are eligible for the program.

What are my responsibilities?:

  1. Be a resident of Jefferson County.
  2. Submit an official registration form, completely filled out by the parent or guardian. Form must be approved an on file with Marshall University’s June Harless Center.
  3. Notify Marshall University’s June Harless Center any time your address changes. Books are mailed to the address listed on the official registration form. If the child’s address changes, you must contact the folks at the address on this card in order to continue receiving books.
  4. Read with your child.

When will I receive Books?: Books will be mailed 8-10 weeks after your registration form has been received. This will continue until your child turns five or you move out of the participating county.

Do I have to register right away?: As long as you register, before your child’s 5th birthday, they are eligible to participate in Imagination Library.

How does Jefferson County have access to this program?: Imagination Library is funded in collaboration with West Virginia Department of Education, Jefferson County Board of Education and Marshall University’s June Harless Center.
